# Start here in 5 minutes

From sign-in to your first saved number and your first request to a colleague in six steps – with no Save button to look for.

This is the shortest path through SmartHead: open a framework, type one value, hand one data point to a colleague and see it in Excel. After these six steps you know how most of the daily work feels.

**Saves you time:** these six steps work the same in ESRS, Revised ESRS and VSME. Learn them once and every framework feels familiar.

## Before you start

* You need the invitation email from your company's SmartHead administrator, or your own free-trial profile. Details in [Sign in, invitations and your account](/your-account-company/sign-in-and-invitations.md).
* Use a laptop or desktop. The ESG pages lock on small screens.

## Six steps

### Sign in

Click **Sign in** and use the email address you were invited with. Administrators and viewers land on the dashboard of their company. Reporters and auditors land on the **Requests** page – if that is you, continue with [Reporter](/start-here/your-role/reporter.md) or [Auditor](/start-here/your-role/auditor.md).

### Pick a framework tile

Scroll to **ESG reporting** on the dashboard. For a first look, click **Revised ESRS** or **VSME** – the two shortest frameworks.

### Open a disclosure

The list shows the standards of the framework (E1, S1, G1, …), each with a count such as "● 9 of 11" – how many of its disclosures are in which status. Expand a standard and click any disclosure row.

### Type a value

Every block on the page is one data point. Type a number or pick an answer, then watch the page header: **Unsaved changes → Saving… → Saved at HH:mm**. There is no Save button; SmartHead saves for you.

### Hand it to a colleague

Click **+** on a data point and choose **Assign request**. Keep the **Request type** on **Task**, pick a colleague under **Select user**, set a **Due date** and send. They get an email and the data point appears on their **Requests** page.

### See it in Excel

Go back to the list and click **Export** › **Export to XLSX**. Tick **Include data points without a value** and you have a template you can send to anyone – and import back later.

Three things most people wonder about on day one: the **+** means "no request yet", the dots on the list are the disclosure status, and **Import from XLSX** hides under the **Export** button. All three are explained in [Find your way around SmartHead](/start-here/navigate-smarthead.md).
